Gulf Aviation is helping the renowned flight centre train the next generation of commercial and recreational pilots

Family run Stapleford Flight Centre is helping hundreds of emerging commercial pilots and private, recreational flyers learn to take to the skies every year.

With 70 staff including some of the UK’s brightest and best teaching talent, Stapleford, based near London, has built a reputation for delivering class-leading flight training for over 45 years.

As one of the biggest and best flight training centre operators in the country, it’s important Stapleford works like a well-oiled machine.

“My amazing team is working to ensure we’re as good as we can possibly be every single day, without compromise,” said Stapleford General Manager, Laura Ward. “And that means working alongside a range of partners, including Gulf Aviation, to ensure we have the facilities and infrastructure in place to match the quality of our training programmes.”

Landing the right world-class partners

Over the years, Stapleford has worked hard to create a world-class environment to enable the next generation of commercial and recreation pilots to shine.

As well as a 35 flight instructors and teaching staff, Laura’s 70-strong team operates a dedicated onsite accommodation facility for up to 20 students, a clubhouse and restaurant, as well as its own fleet of aircraft to give students real world experience of flying.

“We’ve earned an excellent reputation, not only for the quality of our training, but for our infrastructure and operations. It’s something we pride ourselves on,” added Laura. “Gulf Aviation plays a key role in supporting us on the ground. It’s important that our partners, like Gulf, reflect the same commitment as us to world class operations and safety. It’s why they’re our preferred choice.”

Gulf Aviation works with Laura and the team to ensure the flight centre is stocked with a bowser and adequate supplies of Avgas for its ‘workhorse’ fleet of Cessna 152s and Piper Warriors, and jet fuel for its Diamond aircraft.

The Gulf Aviation team also supports Laura’s ground operations team with all the latest updates on global aviation safety standards, including legislative changes and operational improvements.

“David Dykes at Gulf Aviation works hand in hand with our store team to ensure we’re adequately stocked with fuel, Sam Crooks really adds value to the relationship with his in-depth knowledge of aviation safety and I always know I can pick up the phone to Alex Murphy if I ever need him, so it’s a partnership that works for me,” added Laura.

Earning their stripes

Stapleford Flight Centre has earned its stripes when it comes to being regarded as one of the biggest and brightest flight schools in the UK.

It has done so by offering bespoke instruction and support. As Laura says: “We go the extra mile to help our students reach for the skies. We won’t give up on anyone, and we want every student that comes to us to succeed, to flourish, and to grow into the pilots of the future.”

And it’s working. British Airways, Thomas Cook, Ryanair, EasyJet, Emirates and Cathay Pacific boast pilots who have come through the centre’s flight school programme. Others have gone on to have a lifetime of fun in the sky or become flight instructors.

“It’s funny, every time I’m on a flight I strain to try and catch the name of the pilot, because very often it’s someone we’ve bought through the ranks here at Stapleford,” Laura added.

“It’s incredibly satisfying to know we’ve helped someone achieve their dreams, and in turn that they’re helping holidaymakers make their own memories with family and friends.”
