Peter Baxter, proprietor of Ruskington Service Station near Sleaford, Lincs, recently undertook a full pumps, pipes and tanks refurbishment before re-opening in late September. With a more flexible pump layout and a new Gulf branded forecourt, fuel volumes have risen by over 25%.
Peter, who has been involved in the family business for 44 years, recognises the importance of a strong fuel brand and investment to protect his asset.
“As a rural site we know that the stats are against us and have always been prepared to develop our facilities to survive and flourish. We have been strongly supported by Vianet and our new fuel supplier, Certas Energy who market the Gulf brand in Britain. The new Gulf imagery has transformed the forecourt and we are confident that fuel volumes will continue to improve. The site is now equipped for the next 20 years and that is my cue to buy some new fishing rods and let my two sons take the reins. I plan to reduce my hours in the New Year to just 40 a week!”
The business also features a 2000sqft Spar convenience store with weekly sales of £25k and modern workshops with MOT bays. DC Baxter Motors Ltd employs 25 people, including seven members of the Baxter family.
