In November 2014, newly appointed Retail Area Manager, Gary Conway, from Gulf Oil attended a charity day hosted by John Darke Ltd, the Car dealership, at their Gulf branded A16 Garage on Grimsby Road, Louth. The event was organised to raise funds for the BRIT (Brain Injury & Rehabilitation Trust) charity, to help purchase a specific piece of equipment to assist patients re-gain the ability to stand and walk again.
The Charity’s need came to the awareness of John Darke Ltd after one of its employees, Lester Duffer, Senior Sales Executive, suffered a serious head injury in May 2014 which caused him to remain unconscious for several weeks. After undergoing brain surgery and intensive treatment at the Neurological unit at Goole hospital, East Riding of Yorkshire, Lester is now beginning to re-learn basic fundamentals so he can return to his daily life. The excellent rehabilitation care Lester received at Goole Hospital Unit is funded by BRIT, the Brain Injury & Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT).
The charity fun day was a great success with hundreds of people taking part in activities and performances to raise money for this worthy cause. Such activity included live music, the great ‘Louth bake‑off’ and an Aston martin on display. In total the event managed to raise in excess of one thousand pounds, with donations still being received.
