Just a week after the world famous British Grand Prix, students from Birmingham City University (BCU), backed by Gulf Retail, will be lining up on the Silverstone track as part of Formula Student, Europe’s most established educational engineering competition.
Since 1998 Formula Student, supported by the likes of Formula One supremo Ross Brawn OBE, sets the standard for engineering graduates and usually forms part of a degree-level project. Each team is tasked with producing a prototype single-seat race car for competition and judged on factors including cost, performance, maintenance and reliability.
“We’re proud to support the Birmingham City University Racing Formula Student Team and wish them the very best of luck ahead of this landmark occasion,” explains Craig Nugent, Head of Dealer Sales, Certas Energy. “The competition will be intense and it’s a great learning curve for these talented young people. Competing at the home of British Motor Racing will be a fantastic experience for all involved.”
Graduates regularly fill roles in organisations such as Ferrari, Williams Grand Prix Engineering and Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains.
The team’s final preparations for the event (13th-15th July) are well underway. Using Gulf’s automotive lubricant products, BCU Racing is looking to build on last year’s overall final placing of 22nd from a field of over 60 cars, including entries from the USA, Australia, India, Canada and the Far East.
